You might know Heather Jordan as the upbeat voice behind the KNX Hero of the Week. But did you know she’s also an announcer?
She’s currently the stadium voice for Angel City FC at BMO Stadium and is also the voice for several UCLA sports, including softball, volleyball, and gymnastics.
Most recently, Heather took her talents all the way to Houston, Texas, where she was the stadium address announcer for the World Cup matches
In fact, Heather was the only solo female in that role out of the 16 host stadiums.
“When I got the call to do the FIFA World Cup, I'm telling you, it just… it gave me goosebumps,” she said. “It sent shivers up my spine. I really wasn't thinking about the magnitude until the event got closer and closer and closer, and you realize how big the World Cup really is, and you realize how big soccer and football is around the world. And fans come from all over the place, and they spend money to buy those jerseys, and it really has been hands down the greatest thing I've done so far when it comes to my public address announcing career, when it comes to working with sports teams. Man, this was so magical, and I'm so grateful to have been a part of this.”
During her time in Houston, Heather called 27 goals over several matches, which tied for the most in one stadium with Miami. Some of the goals she called were historic.
“We had the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They had their first goal ever of the World Cup,” she said. “Curaçao, we had their first goal of the World Cup ever. So I got to announce first moments for some of these nations who had never been a part of the World Cup. Cabo Verde, man, they were the team to follow this year. We're the sweethearts of the tournament, and, we had a game with them against Saudi Arabia. It ended up being 0-0, but that is the match Cabo Verde learned that they were moving on past the group stages and going on into the, you know, the brackets of the round of 32. So that was a very big moment for Cabo Verde.”
She said she did not practice her announcing beforehand as she wanted to be as authentic as she could be.
“I already have a female voice, so I already stand out and sound a little bit different,” she said. “So I really just feel the moment and if my breath allows me to go with a longer goal, then I go with a longer goal. It feeds into the moment because you have music playing, you have the crowd screaming, you have all these elements. I've got people in my ear waiting to cue me on certain things. So, you just feel it.”
Heather’s goal is to be a stadium announcer next year in Brazil at the Women's World Cup and to be the voice of an Olympic event here in Los Angeles in 2028.
