
The L.A. City Council voted unanimously Tuesday that Airbnb operators within the city should be required to get a permit.
The vote pushes this to city staff to report back in 45 days on what the rules for this permit would be. KNX News’ Craig Feigener spoke to Councilmember Traci Park about this decision.

“I think this would apply to all operators of short-term rentals,” she said. “There are other types of businesses who are also subject to these police permitting requirements and that this is intended to be something that is simple and accessible, not a regulatory barrier for good operators.”
It’s undetermined exactly how much the permit would cost for operators.
Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez said the L.A. Department of Building and Safety should issue the permits, rather than the Los Angeles Police Department.
