LA City Councilman Joe Buscaino has made it official -- he is launching a run to replace Eric Garcetti as Mayor next year.
Buscaino says he will make the issues of crime and homelessness his priorities.
Fernando J. Guerra, professor and founding director of the Center for the Study of Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University, says Buscaino will likely use his experience as a 15-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Guerra says he will have to work hard to lift his name recognition beyond the San Pedro/LA Harbor area he represents.
The only other major candidate so far announced for the 2022 election is current City Attorney Mike Feuer who announced his bid last year and is seen as the front-runner.
