A man who once mocked COVID-19 vaccines joined the many Californians who have lost their lives to coronavirus on Wednesday after contracting the infection.
Stephen Harmon, 34, died in an east Los Angeles hospital while intubated after suffering from critically low oxygen levels and pneumonia, KCBS-TV reported. “Don’t know when I’ll wake up, please pray,” he wrote in a final tweet.
A few days before his death Harmon displayed a very different attitude towards the virus.
"If you don’t have faith that God can heal me over your stupid ventilator then keep the Hell out of my ICU room," he wrote.
Before his hospitalization, Harmon had taken to twitter to poke fun at vaccination efforts, posting “I got 99 problems but a vax ain’t one."
California has observed escalating numbers of COVID-19 infections, most from the dominant delta variant, since the state fully reopened in June.
The vast majority of new cases are among unvaccinated people with President Joe Biden deeming the recent infections "the pandemic of the unvaccinated."
