On Monday, crews were still working to repair the broken water main in West Hollywood, and Mayor John Heilman said it will probably be Wednesday or Thursday before the work is complete.
“I think everyone is disappointed, but I know that LADWP has been out here working around the clock, and it's amazing that they've already got the replacement pipe in there,” he told KNX News’ Jon Baird.
Heilman said while crews were doing some pressure testing, they found some pinhole leaks that they had to fix.
LADWP officials say they should get the results from their recent pressure test sometime Monday afternoon.
While a lot of residents were hoping the repairs would have been done by now, a resident named Alicia says they'll deal with it.
“Well, it's a bit of an inconvenience, you know, obviously, but we are a large city with lots of streets, so we are able to pivot,” she said. “Yesterday was tricky. We had CicLAvia. We had a lot of streets closed, but We're a city that loves to come together, so we figure things out.”
In the early morning hours of July 16, a water main break sent 17 million gallons of water down the street and opened up a sinkhole. As a result of the flood, Heilman said seven apartments were damaged, with four of them receiving significant damage, and between 150 and 200 cars were destroyed or damaged.
