With burglaries on the rise in the San Fernando Valley, a Los Angeles Police Department burglary detective said his inbox is full.

“I have a lot of burglary and theft-related cases that are coming on a daily basis,” Detective Armando Monarrez told KNX News’ Jon Baird.

Monarrez asked people to be patient because police can’t get to each case right away. He explained they have a lot of officers working in the Encino area, some of them undercover, to catch burglars. However, police may not be familiar with all of their partners.

“They don't all work the same units so they don't all recognize each other and we want to make sure that we avoid any kind of police-on-police conflict while they're working the streets,” Monarrez said.

Police asked people to keep an eye out as well.

“If the person doesn't fit that area or doesn't look familiar to that particular area, you know, it's probably a good idea to keep an eye on them just to see what they're up to,” he said.

However, Monarrez warned people shouldn’t confront anybody they think is suspicious.

He suggested that people should call police if they see a suspicious vehicle or person in the neighborhood.
