LOS ANGELES (KNX) — One person was shot Monday when a man caught beating a dog on an apartment balcony fired at them for telling him to stop, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The two witnesses told police they were walking around 7:30 p.m. Monday near the 700 block of North La Brea Avenue when they spotted the man physically beating the dog and yelled at him to let the dog go. As the suspect argued back, the witnesses told police he pulled out a firearm and shot — hitting one of them.

The person hit, whose name and gender has not been disclosed, was taken to the hospital in stable condition and is expected to be ok.
"The suspect was seen running away from the crime scene by witnesses. A perimeter was established, but the suspect was not located," police said in a statement shared with KNX.
The dog's condition was not shared by the department.
The suspect is described as a man standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall, around 140 lbs., and about 21 years old. He is not believed to live at the apartment complex where he was seen beating the dog, but is believed to be the boyfriend of a resident, according to the LAPD.
