A fire damaged a house in the Sun Valley area Thursday and left a man hospitalized in critical condition.

Firefighters sent to the 7700 block of North Coldwater Canyon Avenue at 11:01 a.m. extinguished the flames in 21 minutes, said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"Firefighters arrived to find a single-story house with heavy fire showing, and reports of people trapped inside," Prange said in a statement.

"Crews quickly made access, advanced hose lines, and performed a search of the burning home," Prange said. "Firefighters rescued two people who were trapped inside."

A man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Prange said.

"One adult female, thankfully, only had minor injuries," Prange said. "Firefighters also rescued three pets from the house fire. Two canines are doing well, but one feline is in critical condition."

Animal care personnel were summoned to the scene. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
