LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A man who died after an exchange of gunfire with Simi Valley police last week has been identified as a suspect wanted for murder in Los Angeles.
The shooting happened Thursday evening after the L.A. Police Department notified the Simi Valley Police Department that the suspect, 29-year-old Derrick Padilla, was possibly in their city.

Padillia was wanted in connection with the April 27 murder of his wife at their home in the 2000 block of 7th Avenue in the Wilshire area, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Simi Valley police sent out Padillia's description to officers on patrol and not long after, two officers spotted him in the area of First Street and Los Angeles Avenue.
When the officers attempted to make contact with Padillia, he allegedly pulled out a gun and started shooting, according to police. Both officers returned fire and struck Padillia. He died at the scene.
The officers were not injured.
Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation, the Ventura County Star reported.
The officers' names were not released, but one has 17 years of law enforcement experience and the other has 10, according to the Simi Valley Acorn.
More information about the shooting, including possible footage from officer-worn body cameras, is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
