On Friday, 47-year-old Jamon Rayon Buggs, of Huntington Beach, was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, as well as 54 years to life in prison, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Last month a jury found Buggs guilty of two counts of murder, one count of attempted first-degree burglary and a sentencing enhancement of personal discharge of firearm causing death.

Darren Partch, 38, and Wendi Sue Miller, 48, were found dead inside a Newport Beach residence on Apr. 20, 2019.

Partch, according to the D.A.’s office, “had been previously threatened by Buggs on two prior occasions to stay away from his girlfriend” even though Patch said he did not have a relationship with the woman. Buggs then broke into Partch’s apartment, mistook Miller for an ex-girlfriend and shot them both.

During the trial, Buggs’ attorneys argued that the murders were not premeditated, but “occurred in the heat of passion”, according to The Orange County Register.

During the sentencing hearing, Buggs apologized to the families of the victims.

“I’m sorry this happened, I apologize, I stand accountable for what I did,” he said, according to the O.C. Register. “I sinned and I ask you for forgiveness.”
