
SMITHSBURG, Md. (1010 WINS) -- Police are responding to a shooting in Smithsburg, Maryland in which multiple people have been injured.

The shooting took place at Columbia Machine, a mold manufacturing, parts & repair business, around 2:30 p.m., according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
"At this time the Sheriff's Office can confirm that there are multiple victims and the suspect is no longer a threat to the community," wrote the Sheriff's Office in a Facebook post. "This is a rapidly evolving incident and we will release information as we are able."
Sources told a local reporter for WUSA9 that three people had been killed in the shooting and that a trooper who was shot by the suspect returned fire and killed the alleged gunman.
“We are actively monitoring the mass shooting in Smithsburg right now, and our office is in contact with officials on the ground,” wrote House Rep. David Trone on Twitter. “If you're local, please stay away from the area as law enforcement responds.”
