Residents in a North Hollywood neighborhood are relieved after a vacant lot that has been a nuisance will be cleaned on Thursday.
KNX News’ Karen Adams reported that while there isn’t a home on the lot on Varna Ave., there are makeshift shanties, a rundown RV, car parts, and other trash and debris.
Robert Baindourov told Adams that he and his neighbors have been terrorized by the people who come and go from the property.
“Constant drug use. We're talking about vagrants in the middle of the night going through my trash, looted my car,” he said. “My windows cracked over there because somebody tried to get in. I don't know when that happened. All night long, there's either drug use or some sort of other criminal activity happening.”
Samantha Miranda said she’s relieved city officials are taking action.
“We couldn't walk in the neighborhood, so the neighborhood hasn't felt safe at all,” she said. “Even around the corner, it doesn't feel safe.”
City officials are expected to begin clearing the lot Thursday morning at the expense of the lot’s owner.
Councilmember Adrin Nazarian, who represents the district where the lot is, told NBC 4 he’s received 28 calls about the lot since 2023.
