TikTok has caused quite a stir at one Atlanta hospital where four labor and delivery nurses decided to post the things that annoy them most about their patients and their families.
The nurses shared different “icks” that they get from mothers preparing to give birth and those with them, and while the different actions may irritate them, the TikTok they made may have possibly cost them their jobs.
“My ick is when you come in for your induction, talking about, ‘Can I take a shower and eat?’” one nurse said in the video.
Another nurse shared that her “ick is when you ask me how much the baby weighs and it’s still in your hands.”
The nurses work at Emory University Hospital Midtown and were doing their version of a trend where people say what turns them off about a person they were dating or gives them the “ick.”
The icks didn’t stop with the first two nurses either, as another shared that she doesn’t like mothers who don’t ask for pain medication when they are having an “eight out of 10 pain.”
"The dad comes outside and asks for a paternity test right outside the room door,” a fourth nurse said, describing her ick.
The video has since been taken down from the original account that posted it. But others have reshared it on other social media platforms, where it has gained millions of views.
Emory Healthcare shared a statement after receiving backlash for the post. The hospital said it was “disrespectful and unprofessional,” and does not “represent our commitment to patient-family-centered care.”
The nurses are no longer are employed at Emory Healthcare, but it was not made clear if they were fired because of the video.
“We have investigated the situation and taken appropriate actions with the former employees responsible for the video,” the company said in its statement.
The company went on to say it wants all of its patients to feel they are treated with “care and respect” while at its hospitals.
“Every patient at Emory Healthcare deserves to be cared for by a compassionate, experienced team in a comfortable and safe environment,” the company said.
