Richard Brahm, Coast Guard Public Affairs Officer, told KNX News that the Coast Guard received word of a substance in the water on Thursday night.

“So [at] first light we sent out crews, and the Orange County Sheriff's office was able to locate an oil sheen about a mile and a half off of Huntington Beach and it's about 2.5 miles long this sheen, ” he said.

He added that samples of the sheen was taken.

“They sent them off to get them identified to see if it's a known oil source and the goal right now is to track and kind of predict where this is gonna go and any attempt, any impact from occurring, and try and get it cleaned up as fast as we can,” he said.

Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley wrote on X that the county teams are helping in the investigation.
