
LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A body found beneath the tracks of the Purple Line on Wednesday has been identified as that of a Metro construction worker.
Los Angeles Metro and fire department officials on Thursday were investigating how the worker was struck by a construction train at the site of a future station for Metro's Purple Line in Mid-Wilshire the day prior.

Firefighters wer called to the scene shortly before 5 p.m. on Wednesday to the area of Wilshire Boulevard and La Brea Avenue on reports of a person stuck under a train. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Construction trains are used to transport materials to work sites on the 3.9 miles extension of the D Line from Western Avenue to La Cienega Boulevard, beneath the length of Wilshire Boulevard — set to open in 2024.
"This is a tragedy beyond words and the entire LA Metro family and Metro Board of Directors offers its deepest condolences to the worker's family, friends and colleagues," said L.A. Metro CEO Stephanie N. Wiggins in a statement.
The worker's identity has been withheld for the time being, pending notification of next of kin.
