Students at Redondo Union High School are back in class Tuesday from winter break, not long after two scary incidents for students, faculty, staff, and parents.

The school had two separate gun lockdowns in December before classes were dismissed for the holidays. Two sophomores were detained for bringing firearms to school.

Safety measures have been bolstered in response to the incidents — police K-9s are on campus and a private security team will patrol the property. The school will also have police officers at the entry and exits in the morning until January 12. After that, a third-party security firm will assume those posts.

The detained students are facing charges including being juveniles in possession of a firearm, possession of a high-capacity magazine, and carrying a loaded firearm in public.
