It may soon become legal to store homeless encampment RVs on land leased by CalTrans thanks to a new California bill.

The bill is authored by Hollywood Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur. If passed, it would allow other agencies to lease land from CalTrans to store the vehicles.

RVs are usually surrendered or seized when unhoused people find more permanent housing. There are currently 4,000 RVs in the city of L.A.; however, city lots are filling up.

In December, the city cleared an encampment near the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank known for its snaking stretch of camped-out RVs.
