Los Angeles city and county workers, along with homeless outreach personnel, have managed to clear a mile-long string of parked RVs along Forest Lawn Drive on the L.A.-Burbank border.

This lengthy encampment numbered more than 90 RVs or decrepit cars that people lived in on the street for nearly a year.

Overnight, homeless outreach workers notified people of the impending clearing operation, which prompted about 40 RVs to vacate. Others left after they were given information or a voucher from Inside Safe for temporary shelter.

A fleet of tow trucks arrived in the San Fernando Valley early Wednesday morning, clearing nearly 55 RVs from the roadway.

After the non-operational vehicles were towed, sanitation workers came in to remove thousands of pounds of junk and trash that had accumulated near the encampments over the last few months. Everything from stoves, makeshift shelters, and tires used to jack up cars left unmoved for extended periods of time.

The encampment sweep is the most recent effort from Mayor Karen Bass's Inside Safe program aimed at getting the homeless population of L.A. off the streets.

As Mayor Bass approaches the one year mark in office, has her Inside Safe program fulfilled her campaign promise?
