A US Secret Service agent who is tasked with protecting Naomi Biden, the president’s granddaughter, shot at people attempting to break into a U.S. government vehicle in Georgetown on Sunday.
According to a report from CNN, Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi shared that the incident happened on Sunday at around 11:58 p.m. in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
Guglielmi said that “Secret Service agents encountered possibly three individuals breaking a window on a parked and unoccupied government vehicle” when shots were fired.
“During this encounter, a federal agent discharged a service weapon, and it is believed no one was struck,” Guglielmi said.
The Associated Press reported that the suspects were seen fleeing in a red vehicle and that the Secret Service had put out a bulletin for local police to be on the lookout.
The spokesman added that there was “no threat” to any of those under the protection of the Secret Service but that the agents were a part of Naomi Biden’s security team.
The incident is currently being investigated by the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service.
