SAN FRANCISCO (KNX) – A San Francisco man has been sentenced to two months in jail for a felony hate crime after threatening a family wearing "Black Lives Matter" t-shirts.
Steven Cibotti, 58, was eating in a restaurant in Burlingame on June 7 of 2020 when he saw a family who had just been in a BLM march wearing Black Lives Matter t-shirts, the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office reported in a press release.
The family had three children, ages seven, five and two.
According to the DA's office, Cibotti was allegedly intoxicated, approached the family yelling "blue lives matter" and pushed their table.
The family's father told Cibotti he could not talk to them like that, but Cibotti then yelled "fuck you, if I had a gun, I would shoot all of you," the report stated.
Cibotti pleaded no contest to a felony hate crime by means of felony threats and was given a suspended sentence of two years with supervised probation, 60 days in jail and 120 hours of public service.
He also has been ordered to stay away from alcohol and controlled substances including marijuana, be subject to search and seizure, not be in possession of any weapons or ammunition and has a no contact order with the victims.
