LOS ANGELES (KNX) – A sustainable living in the entertainment industry. That’s what many Writers Guild members told KNX News they want as they took to the picket lines Tuesday.

The picketers gathered outside multiple studios, including Netflix, Paramount, and Disney. The union announced Monday it was going on strike after the union and the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers failed to meet an agreement.

Television writer Alex Fernie said the writers just want a fair share.

“The industry has moved in such a way where a lot of the money is to the top and the writers are just looking for a fair share so that we can stay in our families and our lives here making the things that we love,” he said.

Leila Cohan, a writer for Netflix’s “Bridgerton”, said she and the other writers want to be treated and compensated fairly.

“It means compensated fairly for the work that we're doing for the shows that we're creating and for the business we are creating for these studios and networks,” she said. “In all ways just being sort of fairly compensated for the value that we're providing. Nothing happens without these scripts, nothing happens without these stories and we deserve to make a living while we're telling them.”

Danny Tolli, a television writer and WGAW member, said the union’s demands were reasonable.

“We are trying to protect our livelihood and make screenwriting in TV, in features and in comedy variety sustainable once again and the studios just weren't having it,” he told KNX News.

KNX News reached out to the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers for a statement who said they are not commenting on the strike right now.
