Anaheim’s Planning Commission approved Disneyland’s expansion project.
Disney is hoping the $2 billion “Disneyland Forward” project, which will take a decade to complete, will get final approval by the end of the year.
“This will be bringing new revenue to the city's general fund to pay for vital services like police and fire, parks and libraries, and roads,” the Disneyland resort president said.
The new theme park areas will remain within the park’s existing footprint. Most of the public speakers at the planning commission meeting supported the expansion, but there were some critics.
“Magic Way must remain a public street, especially for us, the residents,” one resident said. “Let us save Magic Way, it's not for sale.”

Disney’s doubling the job creation estimate to about 9,000. This plan would also require Disney to invest millions of dollars in affordable housing and street improvements.
Anaheim City Council will vote on the expansion next month, according to the Orange County Registrar.
