A mama bear and her two cubs have been spotted wandering around a Monrovia neighborhood this week.
Sierra, who lives in the area, told KNX News’ Karen Adams the cubs went up the tree on Monday.
“One of them hasn't been able to get back down,” she said.
Adams reported that the cub who did get back down wound up going into a storm drain. Then on Thursday, both cubs were back in the tree while Sierra said mama bear was cooling off in the pool.
On Friday, Adams was checking out the neighborhood when she had a close call with Mama Bear and one of the cubs.
Residents say they’re used to seeing bears in the area.
“Last week on Sunday, I was out on my side yard watering where my driveway comes up, and they're so quiet, and I turned around, and a bear was approaching me,” one woman said. “So I, of course, was close enough to the back door and could run into the house, and we have cowbells, but it, it took a while for it to go away.”
Wildlife officials are monitoring the bears, and they warn people to give Mama and her cubs some space.
