The 2024 holiday season is a special one because of an occurrence that hasn’t been seen in two decades – one that will result in a simultaneous celebration of two of the season’s most popular traditions.
This year, Christmas falls on the same day as the first day of Hanukkah, meaning 2024 features the first “Chrismukkah” since 2004.

Hanukkah usually runs across eight days in early December and its exact date each year is based on the lunar cycle, though an occasional “leap month” can affect its placement.
Its earliest start date in the last 50 years was November 27, which happened in both 1994 and 2013. Its latest start came in 1986 when the eight-day stretch began on Boxing Day, December 26.
On the other hand, Christmas is of course locked in on the calendar, occurring each year on December 25.
Enjoy the holiday kismet while it lasts this year. We won’t see another Chrismukkah until 2035.
