Woman killed by Amtrak train in North Hollywood identified

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - A 33-year-old woman struck and killed by an Amtrak train in North Hollywood was identified Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

Firefighters were called at 9:38 p.m. Friday to 12099 Sherman Road, east of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, where they learned the San Diego-bound Pacific Surfliner train carrying approximately 116 passengers hit the woman, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.


According to the medical examiner's office, Vanessa Ayala Valencia was pronounced dead at the scene.

No injuries among the train's crew or passengers were reported.
