It wasn’t the first time though, as she’s become something of a “must see” at the Gala each year, arriving in consistently creative outfits that wow the fashion critics.

But when she’s at home and her three daughters are the grousing critics giving her attitude, Lively grabs a photo of one specific Gala gown to try to put them in their place.

It was the 2018 Gala, as Entertainment Tonight reported, that afforded Lively her "favorite look of all time," a stunning bedazzled burgundy number, also made by Versace, paired with a matching brass and brown diamond crown.

"It's something that when my kids are giving me attitude, I'm like, 'This is your mom.' joked the "Gossip Girl" star. “I mean come on. I try to tell them that I'm real-life royalty and that they're lucky that I'm raising them.”

But as for James, 7, Inez, 5, and Betty, 2? “They don't buy it,” said Lively. “They don't believe it."

Lively is very active in the designs of her special occasion outfits, as she proved while detailing all the features she suggested, fearlessly, to Versace and jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz who created the crown and emerald earrings Lively wore that 2018 night.

"This one is actually a dress that they had made,” she said, “but it had a train that was like this -- it was a shorter train. So, we took this dress, and said, 'Ok, can you guys add like 8 feet of train? Can you add beading on the inside?' This had ruching in the middle, which kind of looked like it was too tight and pulling at the hips, so I was like, 'We need to pick up that pattern here as well, so that it looks like a part of the dress.'"

“I get very involved in the design of the dresses,” Mrs. Ryan Reynolds admitted. Exhibiting the self-effacing sense of humor she shares with her husband, she added of her fashion obsessions, “I don't know if it's just that I'm a Virgo, or that I need a life."
