Queens, New York is now home to a fascinating Hip Hop instillation—an LL Cool J statue. The Queens native, whose real name is James Todd Smith, unveiled the sculpture on Instagram back in December.

The bronze-stainless steel sculpture captures a young LL Cool J, wearing his signature bucket hat and rope chain while holding a vintage boombox.

Sculpted by Sherwin Banfield, a Parsons School of Design alumnus, the statue is located at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Interestingly, the statue has solar-powered audio. And it plays LL's music from noon-5 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

On a previous occasion, Banfield has sculpted late hip hop icons Prodigy of Mobb DeppPhife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest, and Jam Master Jay of Run DMC.

The LL Cool J sculpture dubbed “Going Back to The Meadows”, will remain on display through November 23, 2022.
