ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - It appears TopGolf is aiming high for what may be a second location in the St. Louis area. It's been rumored for years and now there's a new clue it's happening in Midtown, on land currently owned by Saint Louis University.
The first is in Chesterfield and always seems to be busy. It's important to keep in mind not many regions get two of them.
Blog CitySceneSTL found FAA applications for those giant poles which hold up the netting around all TopGolf driving ranges. They're between 90 to 190 feet tall and when the blog laid out the poles' coordinates on a map, it assembled in the same exact shape as the Chesterfield TopGolf. The FAA applications – 33 of them total – say construction on the site at Compton and Chouteau Avenues is set to begin in March of 2022 and be completed in December 2023.
If it comes to fruition, area golfers will be teeing off into the skyline of downtown St. Louis, with the Arch in prime viewing position.
In 2019, then-Mayor Lyda Krewson teased some "breaking Topgolf news" about an "exciting addition to the City." A spokesperson said they could not give out any further information at that time.
The new TopGolf would have to apply to the FAA because it's so close to the helipads at Saint Louis University Hospital and Arch Air Medical Services.
There are more than five dozen TopGolf locations in the U.S., but only 10 cities have more than one location. They include Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami and Phoenix. Some cities with only one location include Nashville, Kansas City, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Las Vegas.
