Former Wichita State baseball player Sam Hilliard made his major league baseball debut for the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night in Denver; he was the starting centerfielder in a 10-6 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

Hilliard also recorded his first major league hit -- it was a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Hilliard has 36 home runs this season (35 in Triple-A), and 103 runs driven in (101 in Triple-A).

Hilliard was a 15th Round draft pick by the Rockies four years ago out of WSU. He becomes the first WSU position player to play in the major leagues since Dusty Coleman and Conor Gillaspie last played in 2017.
