Wichita State's previous march to the NIT title started with a rout of Nebraska. "Only" 7,336 showed up at The Roundhouse for a 76-49 shellacking of the 'Huskers. Two games later, when College of Charleston visited Wichita, the game was a sellout. WSU punched its ticket to Madison Square Garden by surviving, 82-75 in "The Andrew Goudelock Game". The Charleston sniper scored 31 in a losing effort.
