KC and Wichita State got off to good weekend starts. The Royals, amid a 10-game road trip, made it two in a row away from Kaufman Stadium with a strong start from Homer Bailey, 6-1 over the Yankees. KC (7-12) has back-to-back wins from Bailey, who hadn't won consecutive starts in two years. WSU (19-18, 4-6 AAC) snapped a six-game losing streak with a series-opening win over UCF (22-16, 4-9).
