The Wichita Thunder announced today that the team and Head Coach Bruce Ramsay have mutually agreed to part ways.

Ramsay spent seven seasons behind the Thunder bench, highlighted by being named the 2021 ECHL Coach of the Year after leading Wichita to a 41-win campaign. That season ended in a narrow semifinals defeat, as the Thunder fell 3–2 in the series, capped by an overtime loss in Game 5 to the eventual Kelly Cup champion Fort Wayne Komets.

“I'm so thankful to Bruce for all his contributions to the Thunder," said General Manager Joel T. Lomurno. “Bruce is not just a knowledgeable head coach but a great person who we all enjoyed working with. I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors. He will always be a respected member of this organization.”

The longest-tenured head coach in franchise history, Ramsay posted a record of 218-214-61. His tenure included a second-place finish in 2025 and his 600th career professional coaching win earlier this season against Trois-Rivières. He also previously suited up for Wichita during the 2000–01 season, recording 35 points and 364 penalty minutes.

“First, I’d like to thank the players who I’ve coached here for the past seven years. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some very talented people," said Ramsay. “I’d like to thank ownership, Joel and Jason Mals, as well as the great fans. There are a ton of die-hard Thunder fans who support the team, and I appreciate you. Wichita will always have a special place for me as a player and a coach."

The Thunder concluded the 2025–26 season on Saturday with a 7–6 overtime loss to the Tulsa Oilers.
