L.A. County coroner rules Jeremy Giambi died by suicide

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Former Major League Baseball player Jeremy Giambi died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Giambi, 47, was found dead on Wednesday when Claremont police responded to a call of a medical emergency at his parents’ home.

Giambi’s agent later confirmed the death to a number of media outlets. A number of teams Giambi played with over the course of his six-season career issued condolences.

"We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of a member of our Green- and-Gold family, Jeremy Giambi," according to a statement from the Oakland A’s.

Giambi was a member of the 2002 Oakland A’s team that served as the basis for the book Moneyball. Giambi was portrayed in the movie adaptation by Chris Pratt.

"Our condolences go out to his family during this very difficult time,” a statement from the Philadelphia Phillies read.

According to Claremont police Lt. Robert Ewing there were no signs of foul play.
