Longtime Wichita State broadcaster Mike Kennedy has added another milestone to his legendary career, earning induction into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026.
Kennedy, who recently retired after 46 years as the "Voice of the Shockers," was honored Saturday during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Kansas Star Casino. The recognition caps a career that made him one of the most respected voices in Kansas sports broadcasting.
A two-time Kansas Sportscaster of the Year, Kennedy got his start in broadcasting at Chanute High School before attending Pittsburg State University. He went on to become synonymous with Wichita State athletics, calling thousands of Shocker basketball and baseball games during his four-plus decades behind the microphone.
Kennedy's impact stretched beyond the broadcast booth. Five members of this year's Kansas Sports Hall of Fame class competed in games that he called during his career, dating back to his early broadcasting days at Pittsburg State.
Kennedy retired following the conclusion of the 2026 Wichita State baseball season, with fellow Shocker broadcaster Denning Gerig taking over as the new Voice of the Shockers.
