A minor league baseball team is changing its name for one time this season to celebrate “summertime, pontoons and the mighty Missouri River.:
On July 27, the Bismark Larks of the Northwoods League will change into the Missouri River Motorboaters.
While motorboating is a summertime activity many enjoy on the waterways, it is also a double entendre involving a woman’s chest (see the movie “Wedding Crashers”).
The team also seems to be having some fun with the logo. It features a baseball with a boating captain’s hat on and a pontoon boat in front of it.
The two “logs” on the bottom of the boat jet out, much like that of a large-chested woman.
“The Missouri River holds a special place in Bismarck’s heart as well as every other city the 2,341 miles of water passes through,” said Bismarck Larks Owner and CEO John Bollinger. “We wanted to create a brand that connected with our boat loving fans, but also fans from all over the country that love their summertimes on the water.”
The merchandise available also has some fun with the name, including a shirt that says “Big Boat Energy” and a youth shirt that says “Future Motorboater”.
The Boaterboaters will take on the Rochester Honkers on July 27. No word if that game was picked for a particular reason.
The Larks are just the latest minor league organization to change their name for a night or two during a season.
