Happy 82nd birthday to a Wichita sports legend, Bob Long.
A native of Pennsylvania, Long played basketball for Wichita University; when his basketball eligibilty was used up, he played football for the Shockers for one season in 1963. That season at wide receiver, he became a Third-Team All-American with nine touchdown receptions.
Long was taken in the National Football League draft in the fourth round by the Green Bay Packers, under head coach Vince Lombardi. In his seven years in the NFL, Long was on three straight championship teams for the Packers, including wins in the first two Super Bowls.
Long is an inductee in the Shocker Sports Hall of Fame.
