After more than four decades behind the microphone, longtime Wichita State broadcaster Mike Kennedy called his final Shockers baseball game Sunday, closing a remarkable chapter in WSU athletics history.
Kennedy, widely recognized as the voice of the Shockers, delivered the final play-by-play call of Wichita State’s 2026 baseball season and capped a broadcasting career that connected generations of fans to Shocker sports.
Throughout his tenure, Kennedy became synonymous with Wichita State athletics, calling countless baseball, basketball, and volleyball games while documenting some of the program’s biggest moments. His voice became a fixture for fans across Kansas and beyond.
The season finale marked an emotional farewell for Kennedy, whose career at Wichita State spanned more than 40 years. Coaches, players, and fans have credited him with helping shape the identity and tradition of Shocker athletics through his storytelling and passion on the air.
Kennedy previously announced plans to retire following the 2025-26 athletic season, bringing an end to one of the longest-running broadcasting careers in college sports.
