Another week, another adventure! Welcome to summer, FOS. One of my all time favorite activities in the summer is to paddle board. After the one time purchase of your board, there are an endless amount of opportunities to explore areas around Portland! One of my favorite spots to get in the water is Promontory Boat Launch in Estacada, Oregon.
One of the best parts about this place is the access to the lake, and how easy it is to get into the water. If you drive down to the marina you can see on the left hand side that there is a specific dock made for kayaks and paddle boards, making it very easy (and wheelchair accessible) for me and my boyfriend Andrew. The area is also very clean!
As soon as you get into the water, follow the lake to the left hand side. This area on is only 5mph for boats, making it very nice and mellow. The views in this area are absolutely amazing, but unfortunately you can also witness the damage from the 2020 wildfires. Eventually this road does end due to closures, but the lake continues on and you are able to go at least 4 miles until you hit the rapids! This is an easy paddle, perfect for all ages. Be sure to have a life jacket with you or hooked to your board (you will get a ticket)!
This area is perfect for an after work adventure to get you off the couch and out of the house. The marina also offers kayak, paddle board and full blown boat rentals for a reasonable price! Be sure to check this place out this summer and come say hi! - Taylor
