It's been a very cold and dark winter, and sadly my mental health has really taken a toll these past few months. Adventures for me have always been a way to get outside and think about something bigger than myself and my own problems, but sometimes it's hard to make plans or time for something that might take up most of your time on a busy day.
Did you know that taking a walk outside can actually help your brain? Our brain physically functions differently when we are outside in nature. It helps decrease blood pressure, decreases anxiety and heart rate and can have a positive overall difference in those with depression. If you're looking for a place to take in some nice views, even if it's just for a lunch break or a quick 20 minutes, this might help you see the world in a different light. Plus, you're not the only one who needs this! I'm going to try and make this a part of my weekly routine as well. We're in this together!
5 Places to Take a Walk Around the Portland Area:
Powell Butte Park (Gresham, OR)
Flicker Trail (Portland, OR)
Springwater Trail (Clackamas, OR)
Sellwood Riverfront Park (Portland, OR)
The Trail at Stone Creek (Oregon City, OR)
Each of these spots offer a wide variety of nature trails with trees, water and great views to take in and escape this normal crazy life. I'm going to make it my mission to try and take a walk each day to clear my mind and remember the good things in life. If you're feeling down lately, you're not alone. Let's get through this together!
