Subway is closing for one day on July 12.
Here’s the deal, nervous Subway fans.
First, they’re only closing half of their restaurants (about 10,000 locations), and they’re doing it to overhaul their menu.
To reward the patience of loyalists who cannot go one day without Subway, they’ll then be giving away one million free sandwiches the next day.
As Insider details, for two hours on July 13, Subway will give away up to 1 million free six-inch “Turkey Cali Fresh” subs. Customers just have to go to a Subway between 10 a.m. and noon local time and request the free sub.
July 13 also happens to be the day that Wendy’s is giving away free sandwiches.
Man, if you’re a fan of fast food deals, this summer is stacking up to be legendary.
According to Subway’s press release, they’re calling the menu changes an "Eat Fresh Refresh.” The more-than-20 menu changes will include sauces, proteins, and breads, and will result in some new sandwiches, too. All U.S. restaurants will experience "improvements to almost every core menu item."
Highlighted by two new bread options -- "artisan Italian" and "hearty multigrain” (that have purportedly been in development for over two years) -- in total there will be 11 new ingredients, six new sandwiches, and four altered sandwiches, along with a new digital-ordering experience.
According to Insider, Subway lost more locations during the pandemic than any other large U.S. fast food chain -- 1,557 fewer stores, a 6.6% loss. So as we hopefully continue to inch away from the virus and get back to eating out more, Subway is obviously trying to reintroduce themselves in a big way.
The participating Subway locations will be closing at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 11 to start the menu update.
