Subway is clapping back at the haters by keeping it 100% real.
After being accused of serving fake tuna in a lawsuit, the sandwich chain has launched a new promotion celebrating its "100% real wild-caught tuna,” reported Today.
Subway is offering 15% on its footlong tuna sub to anyone who orders one through their app or website.
While the chain didn’t directly address the drama in the promotion, to redeem the discounted tuna sandwich customers need to use the promo code “ITSREAL.”
To further express the authenticity of their product, Subway tweeted an image of their tuna subs with the caption: “keep fishing folks, we'll keep serving 100% wild-caught tuna.”
The official Subway website also notes: “Our tuna salad is 100% tuna mixed with mayo.”
According to the New York Post, the lawsuit against the chain was filed by two customers who allege “independent testing has repeatedly affirmed, the products are made from anything but tuna.”
Subway has since responded by saying there is “no truth” to the lawsuit’s allegations.
"Subway delivers 100% cooked tuna to its restaurants, which is mixed with mayonnaise and used in freshly made sandwiches, wraps and salads that are served to and enjoyed by our guests. The taste and quality of our tuna make it one of Subway's most popular products and these baseless accusations threaten to damage our franchisees, small business owners who work tirelessly to uphold the high standards that Subway sets for all of its products, including its tuna," the chain said in a statement to Fox News.
"Unfortunately, this lawsuit is part of a trend in which the named plaintiffs’ attorneys have been targeting the food industry in an effort to make a name for themselves in that space.”
Subway intends to fight the claims, the outlet noted.
