Sadly, those of us that played the Powerball and Mega Millions lotteries woke up again this morning and were NOT millionaires. It's ok there's always next time, right? As of this writing on January 17th 2021, the jackpots were up to $730 Million for Powerball and $850 Million for Mega Millions.
What could you do with that kind of money? Back in 2017 USA Today did a story on just that. So, using that as a guide, Let’s take a look.
For the purpose of this article, we rounded WAY down to a measly little $700 Million so you could buy your cool things and have a few million left over to play with.
Let’s start with your very own Private Island. Private Island Inc has the ability to search by price and I have to say that I felt a bit silly searching the price from Highest to Lowest. It seems that the prices have not changed since 2017. Either that or they haven't updated their website.
The most expensive island that had the price listed was Rangyai Island in Thailand. It's 110 Acres, comes complete with fresh water, electric generator, and mobile signal. The island is located only 20 minutes form an Airport and just 10 minutes by boat from the nearest town. It could be yours for the low low price of $160 Million. Using that as a guide you could buy more than 4 private islands… because they get cheaper.
How about a big house? Prestige Property Group's "Chateau of the Week" 1 is a "French Chateau for Sale in the Loire Valley with 10 Bedrooms." I don't even know what all that means but it sounds expensive. It's "only" 892,000 Euro. Alexa and Siri tell me that the conversion to American is 1,077,945 and some change. You could buy around 649 of those.
Wanna go to "The Big Game?" After a quick visit to TicketMaster, the most expensive ticket to "Big Game LV" is $9500 plus fees, so lets just round up to $11,000 each to make sure we have all fees covered. You could buy 63,636 tickets. Keep in mind, these are "Best available," the price goes down from there.
A quick Google search tells us the seating capacity of Ramond James Stadium is around 65,618. With the addition of temporary seating, it can be expanded to 75,000.. I'm sure that "Big Game" is a big enough even to pull out the "temporary seating" but you won't need it because you could probably buy the whole thing out. Or at least most of it. Talk about Social Distancing!
Maybe you want to throw a big party with your favorite country artist. According to Booking Entertainment.com you can book, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, or Taylor Swift for "$1,000,000+" EACH! Just for fun, lets DOUBLE THAT, to cover production costs and whatnot. That's $8 Million if you book them all... you have plenty of money for pretty much your choice of opening acts. Jeez, what stadium are you going to rent?
Ok fine, lets do something smart with our money. In March of 2020. Bankrate.com says that Americans carrying an average personal debt of $90,460. Lets round up to $100k. You could get 7000 out of debt! Be sure to include yourself in that number.
Lets really dream here. What are the odds of winning BOTH lottery jackpots? Powerball says the Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338.00 and Mega Millions says the odds of winning THEIR jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350. Does that mean if we add those two numbers together, that would be the odds of winning BOTH jackpots? If so, you have a 1 in 595,776,688 shot! But lets not get silly, ok!?
