Even Captain America deals with anxiety

As Captain America, Chris Evans is always ready to step in and save the day, but as himself, Evans is changing the way we talk about mental health.

The actor has been candid on social media about his dealings with anxiety and has been a proponent of using his platform to discuss his own struggles.

On Friday, the Avengers star Tweeted, “Nothing like anxiety for no reason whatsoever. Looking like a 4pm bedtime for me. Happy Friday!"

Fans of the star quickly hopped in the comments and shared their support for Evans. One supporter wrote, “the way it strangely makes me feel seen that Chris Evans is being this relatable. Sleep easy tonight, king."

Another follower chimed in, “The way I’ll never stop loving you for talking about mental health… thank you.”

During an interview about playing Captain America Evans previously spoke about managing anxiety.

He noted that he initially turned down the superhero role, explaining, “I do struggle. I get anxiety about certain things and press, things like that.”

Evans added, “Maybe the thing you’re most scared of is actually the thing you should do... I asked every human being in my life what they thought, and they said I should do the movie, and then I went to therapy. I thought, ‘I’ll talk to my therapist! See what they have to say!’"

In the following conversation that ensued with The Hollywood Reporter, Evans shared that joining the Avengers franchise was “the best decision I've ever made, and I really owe that to [Marvel chief] Kevin Feige for being persistent and helping me avoid making a giant mistake. To be honest, all the things that I was fearing never really came to fruition."
