You certainly know him as the bass player for Rush, and one of the most celebrated and talented musicians to ever grace a stage. But did you know these fun facts about Geddy Lee?

1. His real name is Gary Lee Weinrib. So where does Geddy come from? His Jewish mother had a VERY heavy accent, and "Geddy" is how she pronounced Gary. It just stuck!

2. Speaking of family, his grandmother saved their family from Nazi gas chambers during the Holocaust of the Second World War. She was a total bad ass. Geddy has said that some of his earliest childhood memories involved his mother telling her survival story.

3. He's a published author. Geddy Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass features 408 pages detailing 250 vintage and rare versions of the instrument, including some from Lee's personal collection.

4. Geddy Lee is a baseball FANATIC. His baseball memorabilia collection rivals any sports hall of fame or museum, and you can always see him sitting behind home plate at a Blue Jays game.

5. Not only his he friends with Dave Grohl, their moms are friends, too. Dave and company inducted Rush into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and their moms shared a suite during Rush's R40 Tour. His mom is also featured in Ginny Grohl's book "From Cradle To Stage".

6. Geddy's solo album My Favourite Headache has ties to Seattle. Matt Camerono of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog is a featured drummer on the record!
