Avatar bring their latest album - Don't Go In The Forest - tour to Seattle With the release of Avatar's 10th studio album last month, "Don't Go in the Forest", the new album tour hit America and Seattle Monday night. With the tour also including the openers Alien Weaponry and SpiritWorld, fans got their money worth with one heck of a concert from start to finish. Avatar has always had a theatrical approach to their music, videos and intergraded it in their live shows.
When the band opened the show with the new album opener "Captain Goat" it was unique and amazing. Heavy blue fog onstage and the band stood atop a platform on a track that took them from behind the stage curtains to stage front. Also the drum set was in halves and on tracks so when the band went by the drum set would go back together. Never seen that before! Was so cool! The band ripped through a 18-song setlist that included: Captain Goat / Silence in the Age of Apes / The Eagle Has Landed / In the Airwaves / Bloody Angel / Death and Glitz / Blod / Colossus / Howling at the Waves / Tower / Glory to Our King / Legend of the King / Let It Burn / The Dirt I'm Buried In / Tonight We Must Be Warriors / Encore: Dance Devil Dance / Smells Like a Freakshow / Hail the Apocalypse.
Avatar have been a band for over 20 years, but only been touring American since 2013. For over a decade they've built up a pretty good cult following to fill 1000-1500 seat venues, but if you see them live they are so much bigger. They should be so much bigger in the States, but it's gonna take a big opening act tour or radio hit to do that. The new album is their boldest and best yet! Avatar is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get musically in their vaudeville inspired melodic death, power, alternative rock/metal mix. Frontman Johannes Eckerström is a powder keg of energy onstage with a vocal range that can go anywhere. The twin guitar attack from Kungen Jarlsby & Tim Öhrström is probably the most unique of sounds of any in this genre and the bottom end of John Alfredsson (drums) and Henrik Sandelin (bass) cements this bands complete and bizarre in many ways musical theatre. A must to see live band, you won't be disappointed and with so many great songs to back it all up.
Opening the show was Las Vegas' death-western hardcore metal rhinestone cowboy's SpiritWorld! Imagine Johnny Cash meets Slayer ha!!! They completely won the crowd over with their energy and look. Band members matching old-school country "Nudie Cohn" suits (see pics below) and cowboy hats. No one looks like these guys in metal! One of my favorite bands live! Their new album "Helldorado" came out earlier this year! The video (watch here) for "Waiting on the Reaper" perfectly showcases this band.
After SpiritWorld New Zealand's tribal groove/thrash metal of Alien Weaponry hit the stage. A Sepultura-like mix of metal that is in many of their videos telling stories about New Zealand tribal war and cultural history songs. Like off their latest 2025 album release ""Te Rā"" the video for "Mau Moko" is about two preserved heads from the 1800s taken and traded as trophies and how the families are still fighting today to get their ancestors returned to them. Not your normal lyrical stuff ha! Watch video here.
