How many years did you work at KISW? On and off since an internship in 1981.

What position(s) did you work at KISW? Intern, On Air, Metal Shop Director, AMD, MD, APD, PD, dishwasher, van driver, relic...


What are your three greatest memories at KISW? Seriously - only 3?
1.) Interviewing Steve Slaton for a 9th grade school assignment (internship followed shortly after)
2.) Hosting my first national broadcast representing KISW (Queensryche, Promised Land, Bad Animals studio)
3. Being part of the AIC/PJ/Soundgarden/Nirvana family - and all that the 90's entailed.

What's a story you couldn't tell people back in the day? Still can't tell it.  I guess two offerings was the radio name that was suggested to me.... or how I was told that people don't start their radio career at KISW. The rest of the stories I can't tell - I have to take them with me to the grave.

What band were you most proud to bring to a bigger audience? Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Tool, Candlebox, Brother Cane, The Tea party - oh there are many more..

How has Seattle changed the most? Regardless of its size - Seattle was still always a small town the played out in a quirky way. Miss the small town vibe...miss the quirky, miss the small.

What's something you never though you'd see? An 18-wheel semi driving straight at me.

What's your best memory of meeting a rock star? Robert Plant - and I couldn't speak. Good gawd - all the words came out at once.

Who was your best friend at the station back in the day? So many mentors, all were my family - can't pick just one! Jon Ballard & Damon Stewart probably have the most dirt on me.

Name a KISW band you still love! I can't give you their name - but their initials are. (plus all the local fare)

Favorite concert from your time at KISW? Rockstock '94 and any surprise show at Rckndy.

What was your most memorable band interview? Lars Ulrich of Metallica - because I got to do it twice.

What is Cathy up to now? She's married to Nels, has a son named Trevor, serves as KISW's most valued historian and unofficial mayor of Orcas Island, plus she runs her own company called Cathy Faulkner Voice-Overs.
