Not that you need much more than the title to pull you in, the film is centered around a 500-pound black bear as it journeys through the forest on a drug-fueled rampage encountering cops, criminals, tourists, and teenagers. Banks is commended for her brilliant directing as she meshes comedy and horror in a well-balanced light.
“That was the challenge of it,” Banks said of getting the balance just right. “The tone and the script, I thought, ‘If I can get this right, I think it can hit.’ It’s a fine line to walk, for sure.”
She continued, “I’ve only seen it with audiences, and seeing it with audiences, it’s pretty intense. You’ll have couples having completely different reactions sitting right next to each other. Some that are [screaming] some that are laughing in the same moment, which is very fun to see.”
While striking different emotions for different viewers, Banks makes clear the truth-based storyline leaves no question that drugs are bad.
