Keeping with tradition, Swedish rockers Ghost are following up the release of their latest full-length studio album with a collection of uniquely “Ghost-ified” covers, including the first taste of the upcoming Phantomime EP, their take on Genesis’ “Jesus He Knows Me.”

Known for their incredible takes on The Beatles’ "Here Comes The Sun," Depeche Mode’s "Waiting For The Night," and Metallica’s "Enter Sandman" among many others, Ghost is now making the case that "one person’s beauty is another’s blasphemy" with their new single and visual interpretation of Genesis' 1991 We Can't Dance single, “Jesus He Knows Me.”

The band, you'll be happy to know, says the track, "rises to the occasion in unholy fashion — and then some." Check out the single right here, along with a wild music video by filmmaker Alex Ross Perry.

“I’ve always loved that song and I’ve always found it a little bit paradoxical,” frontman Tobias Forge tells NME. “That it always had an element in it that was unexplored – unexploited... I’ve always heard in my head that this song has an explosive twin. You know, that you can play it basically like the original, but with a little bit more muscle, and all of a sudden, it’s going to be almost like a Metallica song from their ‘Garage Days’. It’s very punky and has a lot of meat in it.”

During the writing and recording process of their latest full length, IMPERA, the Ghost songwriter says he had also been working on demos for what he referred to at the time as the “cover album,” revealing, “originally, the idea was to have 10 songs on this covers record because I wanted to make a complete record and that LP was going to basically mirror ‘IMPERA’ somehow." Forge adds, “Originally the selection was a little bit more eclectic. Look, I’m not going into great detail about them, because we might use some of them at a later point. But, it was basically like a piano version of a Motörhead song. There was a Misfits song that was really cool and a U2 track. We recorded it all. In fact, we did a really finished demo of Rush’s ‘Distant Early Warning,’ and then after ‘IMPERA’ I was just like, ‘I want to do a rock EP. A pure rock EP!’”

Ghost's new Phantomime EP, "a devilish debut of 5 incorrigible covers," will be out everywhere on May 18. Pre-orders are available HERE. See the official tracklisting below. The band will also make a return to the U.S. this year on their RE-IMPERATOUR, kicking off in August. See a full list of dates and grab your tickets right HERE.
