Where Are They Now: Lesley Brookes

KISW's first Rock Girl, Lesley Brooks

In all my 50 years of listening to The Rock of Seattle, KISW, it has been the soundtrack to my life! The Pain in the Grass shows at the amphitheater at the Seattle Center, baseball games, out in the clubs, the cheap shows at The Paramount! The listening parties at Fort Courage, a short lived bar on Queen Anne, where I bartended. I was affectionally called "our Miss Brookes" by Crowski! Free music, free tshirts, free bumper stickers, and free drinks! Drugs weren't legal, but were all over the place (so I hear!)!

Before computers, we had transistor radios, 8 tracks, cassettes and car radios. Always loved that it was local, and you always felt part of the scene! Always played it loud because they were made loud!

Being the first Rock Girl in 1981 is quite an honor, and probably my coolest mom moment for my 3 kids! '70s and '80s were a whirlwind for me...sex, drugs, and rock and roll! I am now a proud wrinkle rocker, and love my life, being a retired rock and roll senior! I've been to and been invited to so many shows, and in the day, a lot of backstage action! I've met so many stars and musicians and pretty much have documented in pics.

The first show I ever attended was the Beatles in 1966, which I wish I had pics of! We moved from England in '63, and my parents were total Beatles groupies! I swear my dad must of taken us to see A Hard Days Night 50 times!! Growing up on Queen Anne, we went to all the teen fairs and rock shows. I remember meeting Mitch Ryder at one of the teen fairs!

We also met Robert Plant! We saw Led Zeppelin open for the Vanilla Fudge. Me and three girlfriends sat close to the stage, and he came and sat with us, and asked if the Fudge was any good - we said yes!! The best!! We moved because he had really bad b.o.! No clue who he was! We never miss The Stones, AC/DC, The Cult, Billy Idol, Kid Rock, Rod Stewart - and we will travel to see them. I's always like a religious experience for me. Rock gets me in my deepest soul! I hope we get some coverage on this special day... on the radio, on the tv and in the streets! I hope they fly the KISW flag on top of the needle, and long may it wave!
