Alongside Atticus Ross and Jon Batiste, Reznor took home an Academy Award for Best Original Score for the movie Soul. The duo of Ross and Reznor composed the score for the film while Batiste contributed original jazz songs for the movie.

Ross and Reznor’s victory at the 2021 Oscars marks their second Academy Award for Best Original Score after the pair won the award at the 2011 Oscars for their work on the film The Social Network.

"Ten years ago, when we did 'The Social Network,' which is the first film that we worked on, it was such a great experience," Reznor said at the 2021 Oscars.

"We just came out of it inspired and re‑energized, and it was working on a medium we hadn't done before and learned so much, that we felt like, hey, let's do a Nine Inch Nails record; let's go on tour.”

He added: "And what we've tried to do since then is break it up where we do some rock music, we come back and do some film work. We've just done three pretty big films in Watchmen, Mank, and Soul in a row. We should be on tour but COVID has prevented that."

Will Nine Inch Nails fans see a rush of creative output from Reznor following his victory at the Oscars much like what happened nearly a decade ago? It looks like that will be the case.

"We are planning on working on Nine Inch Nails material as soon as probably tomorrow," Reznor said.

Nine Inch Nails last albums came in March 2020 with Ghosts V: Together and Ghosts VI: Locusts.
